Official EPA range is 520 miles (837 kilometers), the longest ever rated
With the different versions of the Air, Lucid is occupying the top 6 positions for EPA range ratings of EVs
The longest-range model still has 933 horsepower
Lucid Motors has teased its first production car a few times, but now it seems to be ready reach customers.
With deliveries supposed to begin later this year, the EPA’s official range rating was awaited and it didn’t disappoint.
The Lucid Air Dream Edition R has an EPA range of 520 miles (837 kilometers) which is the highest ever tested by the agency, more than 100 miles (161 kilometers) longer than the Tesla Model S which previously held the record.
This long range doesn’t come at the expense of performance like it sometimes does in EVs since the Dream Edition R version is packing 933 horsepower.
According to the company, the impressive efficiency of the battery and motors can be attributed to the brand’s involvement in formula E racing, for which it supplies batteries.
Many versions of the Air will be offered, the Dream Edition Performance will produce 1,111 horsepower while still returning up to 471 miles (758 kilometers) of range and the Grand Touring will have a range of up to 516 miles (830 kilometers) and power output reaching 800 hp.
These range figures were all achieved by vehicles fitted with 19 inch wheels, opting for the 21 inch wheels will reduce the range by 47, 39 or 20 miles (75, 63 or 32 kilometers) depending on the model.
In addition, the Lucid Air will be capable of gaining 300 miles (482 kilometers) of range in just 20 minutes when using an appropriate DC fast charger.
Of course, this performance allied to the impressive range won’t come cheap. Prices have been announced for the United States, where the luxury sedan will have an entry price of $77,400. The most expensive version (the one with the longest range) will cost $169,000.
Prices for Canada have not been announced yet, but sales north of the border have been confirmed and Canadians have been able to pre-order a Lucid Air for quite some time already.
