McLaren plans to introduce at least one new model each year through 2028, beginning with its fastest production car next year and culminating with its first-ever SUV in 2028. As a reminder, it was about seven years ago that a number of McLaren execs said they’d never build and sell an SUV, though rumours of its imminent arrival have been circulating for more than three years.
The product roadmap was shared with global dealers on November 11 at the McLaren Creation Centre in Bicester, England.
The SUV, code-named P47, will mark a serious about-face for McLaren as its first four-door vehicle and could become the brand’s entry-level model. Dealers who attended the meeting described the hybrid, all-wheel-drive vehicle as a five-seater with a coupe-like silhouette. Its dimensions exceed those of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, and it rides on 24-inch wheels.
Aerodynamic elements include a front scoop for engine cooling, split headlights, a roof-mounted aerodynamic “spine,” and a large rear diffuser and spoiler. The V8-powered SUV will incorporate McLaren’s new design language and feature commemorative badging referencing Bruce McLaren’s New Zealand roots. It is designed to compete with performance SUVs such as the Ferrari Purosangue and Lamborghini Urus. McLaren did not specify where the SUV will be built. Deliveries are expected in 2028.
Before the SUV, McLaren will debut a new mid-engined coupe in 2027, internally known as P34. The vehicle will feature a V6 mild-hybrid powertrain producing nearly 800 horsepower. Positioned between the Artura (approx. $250K) and the 750S (approx. $ 345K) in terms of price, the P34 introduces a new design language for the brand. Its wedge-shaped front is reminiscent of the McLaren F1, and it includes a tempered-glass engine cover and a fully digital cockpit with a large LED display.
McLaren also presented updates to existing models. The 750S will see a final edition, the 788HS, in early 2027, limited to 200 units and available as both coupe and spider. A 2+2 grand touring model could replace the McLaren GTS in 2027. Additionally, a convertible version of the W1 supercar is planned for 2028, featuring a three-piece removable hardtop. The 750S is also set to be replaced in 2028 by a new model aimed at competing with the Ferrari 849 Testarossa.
McLaren is undergoing a strategic transition under the ownership of Abu Dhabi-based investment firm CYVN Holdings, which acquired the automaker in April. CYVN also controls British EV startup Forseven and has a majority stake in the electric vehicle division of Gordon Murray Design.
McLaren’s future models will integrate lightweight engineering and electric drivetrain technologies from these partner companies. Most of the lineup is expected to be hybridized within three years.
