New Grandis offers hybrid and mild hybrid options on a shared Renault Alliance platform.
Mitsubishi expands European lineup, adding to ASX and Colt with diverse electrified vehicles.
The Grandis could be a much-needed addition to Mitsubishi’s North American lineup.
Mitsubishi Motors has announced that its European subsidiary will begin rolling out the all-new Grandis compact SUV across Europe this year. The vehicle will be manufactured at Renault’s Valladolid facility in Spain.

This launch brings back the Grandis nameplate to Europe after a 13-year absence and follows Mitsubishi’s introduction of the ASX compact SUV (aka RVR on our shores) and Colt hatchback in the region last year.
The Grandis will be offered in both mild hybrid (MHEV) and hybrid electric (HEV) variants, two powertrains that align with Mitsubishi’s strategy to diversify its electrified offerings, which also include the Outlander PHEV and the upcoming Eclipse Cross BEV.

The all-new Grandis is assembled on the CMF-B platform, supplied by Alliance partner Renault. It comes with two powertrain configurations. The MHEV variant features a 1.3-litre direct injection turbo gasoline engine that produces 103 kW, paired with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
The HEV model combines a 1.8-litre gasoline engine delivering 80 kW (107 hp) with two electric motors—a 36 kW (48 hp) drive motor and a 15-kW (20 hp) generator. The total system output reaches 115 kW (154 hp). Supported by a 1.4 kWh lithium-ion battery and a smart multi-mode gearbox, the hybrid system automatically adjusts power distribution between the engine and electric motors. Drivers can utilize EV, hybrid, regenerative, and E-Save modes, with E-Save maintaining a battery charge above 40 % for future electric driving needs.

The Grandis incorporates Mitsubishi’s Dynamic Shield design language at the front, with a glossy black grille and satin silver accents. A sculpted hexagonal rear motif and 19-inch alloy wheels contribute to its exterior presence. Inside, the two-row, five-seat layout allows the rear seats to slide up to 160 millimetres, expanding luggage space from 434 litres up to 566 litres or 1,455 litres with the seats folded. A power remote tailgate enables hands-free operation, while a panoramic electrochromic glass roof offers customizable shading.
A vertical 10.4-inch Smartphone-link Display Audio system integrates Google built-in functions, including Google Assistant, Maps, and Play. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are supported. Four selectable driving modes—Perso, Eco, Comfort, and Sport—adjust vehicle dynamics to suit different conditions.
Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross Returns in Europe as an EV Based on Renault Scenic
North America: Help!
Mitsubishi’s North American lineup is ageing and in desperate need of an influx of fresh new products. The new ASX, launched a little over a year ago, is available as a full hybrid (HEV), a mild hybrid, and a gasoline model. So far, Mitsubishi has not confirmed whether it will replace the existing RVR with the new ASX. Our RVR’s roots go as far back to 2010 – time for a change. A new Eclipse Cross was introduced in mid-May as a new EV. As it stands, there is no news to share about its North American arrival.
The new Mitsubishi Grandis will go on sale in Europe later this year. We hope that it will replace our Eclipse Cross, which was launched in 2017.
