The one specification the Blue Oval has left out of the press releases is the new 2020 Ford Super Duty’s output numbers. The suspense is killing us.
Why is that? The power war in the full-size pickup segment rages on and there’s no end in sight. Just last month, RAM unleashed the 1,000 lb. torquer Heavy Duty on the world which can only mean that Ford will fight fire with fire.
While the new 2020 Super Duty will be available and loaded with technology (Pro Trailer Backup Assist, standard FordPass Connect with 4G LTE modem, wireless charging and loads of driver assist features), it’s what’s under the bonnet that will really count.
The truck’s standard 385-horsepower 6.2-litre gas V8 is back but the big news is the coming of an all-new advanced 7.3-litre gasoline V8 and upgraded third-generation 6.7-litre Power Stroke diesel V8. Both of these will be paired to an equally new heavy-duty 10-speed TorqShift automatic transmission.
With these new upgrades, Ford promises that the new 2020 Super Duty will deliver its highest conventional, gooseneck and fifth-wheel towing and payload ratings ever.
So, how many torques will the upgraded Power Stroke (new injection system, redesigned electronic-actuated variable-geometry turbocharger, increased strength internal including new steel pistons) actually make. We’re betting on 1,050 lb.-ft. Now that would be something.
As we wait to learn more about the 2020 Ford F-Series Super Duty’s competition.
