Buick Grand National Rendering | Source: wb.artist20
The world has changed quite a bit since the Buick Regal Grand National GNX terrorized drag strips in the late 80s. Today, there’s very little space for a car like the Grand National, a large coupe with a ton of power.
Automakers just aren’t building cars like that anymore. There’s the Dodge Challenger, obviously, and its Mustang and Camaro competitors, but that’s about it.
A new Buick Grand National could compete with more luxurious models like the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe, or Buick could bring back the name on a four-door sportback-type model. If Buick did bring back the Grand National, it could work wonders to improve the automaker’s reputation among younger buyers looking to have fun behind the wheel.
On the other hand, there’s very little chance this happens. Still, wb.artist20 decided to take a look at what a modern Buick Regal Grand National could look like.
The result is a large, massive front grille and an overall muscular design that does pay hommage to the original car. You could see a big V8 finding its way under the rendered car’s long hood.
The original Buick Regal Grand National was rated by GM at 268 horsepower with a massive 360 pound-feet of torque. Experts agree today that those numbers were below the actual power produced by the large Buick coupe.
