New Bumper Gives your BMW 5 Series New M3 Looks

Add toothy grin to your 5er

  • Add modern, uh, style? To your 2000s 528i

  • Comes in M3 and M2 nose styles

Love the giant kidney grilles of modern BMW‘s? Want to give your boring-looking 2000s BMW the same treatment? A seller on Taobao has exactly what you’re looking for, letting you turn your E60-chassis BMW 5 Series into a carbon (well, ABS plastic) copy of the latest BMW M3.

The bumper is designed for the E60 5er, that’s the model sold from 2003 through to 2010. It was part of an era of BMW styling that wasn’t exactly looked at fondly at the time, though after some of the brand’s latest cars that’s likely changed.

Two versions of the bumper are offered for the car from this Taobao seller (via The Drive), and both give you extremely different modern BMW nose interpretations.

The first is called the “Renewed M3 Big Mouth Front Bumper” (so says Google Translate) and it offers the massive hood to ground kidney grilles that started on the X7 but were taken to the extreme on the new BMW M3 and M4.

The second is a little more subtle, or at least it is after seeing the first one. It takes the nose of the latest BMW M2 Competition and applies that treatment to the 5er. A pair of much smaller grilles and big lower air intakes.

Neither one integrates all that well into the rest of the shape of that generation 5 Series, though we’re guessing that buyers probably won’t care all that much. It looks close enough when you’re standing in front to fool the average person. Of course, the average person likely doesn’t care.

If you’re interested, the bumpers sell for 1,800 Yuan, or about $350 Canadian. At that price, the angry stares you get at the next BMW club event might just be worth it.
