Subaru will introduce it’s first-ever plug-in hybrid vehicle in Canada next year when the 2020 Crosstrek rolls around. But first, the new PHEV Subaru will be unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show next week.
Interestingly, the U.S. has a 2019 Crosstrek Plug-In Hybrid version which features 17 miles (27 kilometers) of all-electric range from two electric motors powered by a 8.8-kWh battery. The latter that needs two hours to charge using a 240V outlet.
The extra motors are paired to a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 137 horsepower. Interestingly, total output is rated at 148 hp.
There is no loss of cargo capacity despite the added motors and battery, and all-wheel drive is standard in the plug-in hybrid Crosstrek. No word yet on whether the 2020 Crosstrek PHEV will share these specs or feature a brand-new powertrain. We’ll know more after the unveil in Los Angeles.
