There’s little hope that Volkswagen will ever bring the T-Roc to North America Canada in the future. The good news is that previously, we’d have reported that there was no hope such a vehicle would grace our roads. However, given the current trade climate, things could change in the coming months and years.
It’s not that we need another crossover or SUV on the market, but the Volkswagen T-Roc, built in Palmela, Portugal, is an example of what could be offered here should the U.S., EU, and Canada accept each other’s vehicle safety and emissions standards.
Between now and then, here are details on the new second-generation 2026 Volkswagen T-Roc. It is a compact SUV built on the MQB evo platform, now featuring expanded hybrid options, updated design elements, and a revised interior layout. With over two million units of the first-generation model sold worldwide since 2017, the T-Roc remains one of the company’s most successful global models after the Tiguan.
The redesigned T-Roc has grown by 12 centimetres in overall length for more passenger space and luggage capacity. Exterior changes include a revised lighting system with standard LED headlights, optional IQ.LIGHT LED matrix headlamps, and illuminated Volkswagen logos front and rear. The coupé-inspired rear profile remains, while new paint finishes and bi-colour roof options increase customization.
Inside, the T-Roc features a redesigned dashboard with soft materials and a 13-inch infotainment display. Optional features include a head-up display, 14-way adjustable ergoActive seats with massage function, and ambient lighting. Rear passenger comfort has also been improved with the increase in overall dimensions.
At launch, the T-Roc will be offered in Europe with two 1.5-litre 48V mild-hybrid engines, producing 85 kW (114 hp) and 110 kW (148 hp), both mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. A pair of newly developed full hybrids and a 2.0-litre TSI with all-wheel drive will follow. A T-Roc R performance model is also planned – a version that would do well in North America.
Volkswagen has simplified the T-Roc’s equipment offerings with four trim levels: T-Roc, Life, Style, and R-Line. Standard and optional packages have been reduced by half to streamline configuration. Pricing in Germany starts at €30,845 for the base 1.5 eTSI model. This amounts to roughly $49,500 CDN, or about $15,000 too much for our tastes. If the regulations don’t keep off our shores, pricing and costs will.
Last year, nearly 292,000 units were sold in Europe.
