NSFL In North America: The BMW ALPINA B5 Bi-Turbo Touring AWD

0

While we poor North Americans can no longer purchase ANY new BMW stations wagon, aka Touring, Europe can not only get them but Alpina transforms them into supercars.

While we mourn a market without a BMW long-roofs, Europe continues its love affair with the wagon thanks in part to Alpina and its stunning line-up of BMW Touring supercars, namely the latest BMW ALPINA B5 Bi-Turbo Touring AWD.

BMW of North America decided only last year that they were no longer going to offer the 3 Series station wagon with the arrival of the all-new G20 3 Series. Nearly 10 years ago, this same car company made the brilliant decision to can the 5 Series wagon in favour of the 5 Series GT – we all know how well that worked out.

Station wagon enthusiast (like moi) love to dream about our next wagon purchase even if we’ll never get the chance to actually own it. Without a doubt, aside from the hopefully upcoming Audi RS 6 Avant and the Mercedes-AMG E 63 S Estate, the most drool-worthy new long-roof vehicles in the world bear an ALPINA badge on it.

This video, published by ALPINA, depicts a magnificent Porsche 911 GT3 RS and Mercedes-AMG GT R going at it while, unbeknownst to them, a B5 Bi-Turbo Touring is casually creeping up on them. As the camera focuses on the ALPINA, the music changes to a very Bavarian tune. In no time flat, the 608-horsepower, 590 lb.-ft. of torque twin-turbocharged V8 B5 comfortably passes the two supercars at, apparently, 322 km/h.

The BMW ALPINA B5 Bi-Turbo Touring AWD is the fastest production Touring in the world, is built in Bavaria and it’ll never come to our shores.
