The new-generation Audi RS6 Avant was caught testing in recent spy shots as we wait to find out if it’s coming here or not.
Boy do we want to see the 2020 Audi RS6 Avant land here in North America. One of the most desirable wagons in existence, the RS6 Avant has been rumored to being on its way, but we still don’t have confirmation.
The spy shots here show the new 2020 RS6 going hard on the Nürburgring, and those who managed to get close enough to hear it say the exhaust note is something else. Based on the Audi A6 wagon which we don’t get here either, the European RS6 Avant is currently powered by a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 that delivers over 600 horsepower.
That’s great, but new RS6 might even be faster. Reports suggest the power will be cranked up to 650 horsepower, enough to leave the Porsche Panamera Turbo Sport Turismo (550 horsepower) and Mercedes-AMG E 63 S wagon (603 horsepower) in the dust.
The Audi RS6 was offered for a time here in North America, but only in sedan form. The current generation of the RS6 was announced in 2012 and only offered as an Avant wagon.
It never made it to North America with Audi bringing the RS5 and RS7 instead. Although the Audi RS7 is quite spacious and versatile while also being ridiculously powerful, it never had the same appeal as the RS6 Avant.
With wagons making a tiny comeback in North America, the moment is perfect for Audi to introduce a new 2020 Audi RS 6 Avant. And why not do it next month at the New York Auto Show where the German automaker introduced the RS5 Sportback last year? We may be dreaming here, but that would be perfect.
