Only late last June, there was noise coming from GMC about their potentially taking on some heavy-hitting serious off-road capable trucks. Concluding that a GMC Canyon/Chevy Colorado-based SUV to take on the upcoming Ford Bronco and the legendary Jeep Wrangler made more sense than double-stuff Oreo cookies, we went with it.
Apparently, these reports were far more dated than previously thought. At some point in 2018, GM intended to design and develop such a vehicle however the plans were scrapped back in November of 2018. According to Muscle Cars and Trucks, this information is based on old data.
Now that we’ve take a step back, logic prevails as, as we know, GM announced major restructuring plans in November of last year, the point in time when the “Jimmy” and other plans died.
Reading further down, the idea of a unique GMC off-roader doesn’t seem 100% dead. This is pure speculation however a 100% electric off-road SUV could very well become something especially is GM beats the competition and creates such a vehicle.
For many car companies, 2019 into 2020 is proving to be transitional and delicate at best what with shrinking sales and profit margins. Every penny must be accounted for.
