The Porsche 718 goes GTS

Contrary to popular belief, a GTS Porsche is not simply another high-powered performance version of Stuttgart’s products. It is in fact the combination of the best options and features that Porsche has to offer on the given car.

With this in mind, we understand why the new 718 Boxster and Cayman GTS are equipped with the Sport Chrono Package, Alcantara-clad sport seats PLUS with GTS logos and a number of other specific touches. These seats are as good to look at as they are to sit in.

But that’s far from all.

Obviously, there is a considerable boost in output. The “S” versions of the 718 Cayman and Boxster are provided 350 horsepower from their turbocharged 2.5-litre flat-4 cylinder engines. Ticking the GTS box upon ordering increases that number to 365. The torque jump is timider as the figure is now 317 lb.-ft. from the standard S’ 309 lb.-ft. rating.

If that not good enough news then know that the cars can be fitted with either the 6-speed manual or the very excellent optional 7-speed Porsche Doppelkupplung (PDK). With the latter ‘box, the cars will reach 100 km/h in only 4.1 seconds. That is very quick indeed.

Oh, and there’s more. Included with the GTS are Porsche’s Torque Vectoring (PTV) with mechanical rear locking differential, and Porsche’ Active Suspension Management (PASM) that happens to lower the ride height by 10mm.

And let’s not forget the sublime satin black 20” Carrera wheels, tinted front and rear lights, black logos, and black twin center tailpipes with standard sport exhaust system for that necessary extra throaty growl.

The cars arrive in the first quarter of 2018 but can be ordered now. Pricing for the 718 Cayman GTS begins at $90,600, while the 718 Boxster GTS starts at $93,000.
