Porsche Taycan EV Spotted Winter Testing

Porsche’s new Taycan electric luxury sedan was spotted winter testing earlier this month.

As we move closer to the official unveiling of the production Porsche Taycan, engineers are hard at work testing Porsche’s new luxury EV including some winter testing currently happening in the Arctic Circle.

Spy shots of the testing reveal more details about the new Porsche Taycan including its massive brakes captured for the first time. We don’t know the specs of these brakes, but they are massive and look just as capable as what you’d find on any other Porsche model.

The cars were still heavily camouflaged, of course, but we can make out a pop-out mechanism for the door handles that’s very close to the system used on the new 992 Porsche 911. The overall look of the car looks to be close to the Panamera sedan’s design, although slightly lower and wider with longer overhangs.

The Panamera resemblance continues in the back where the full-width rear LED taillight is featured. The photographer also managed to capture shots of the trunk open and we see what appears to be a decent cargo area.

We’re thinking the new Porsche Taycan will look just as good as the Mission E Concept which was the genesis for Porsche’s first fully electric vehicle.

What We Know About The New Porsche Taycan

The Porsche Taycan will be powered by two electric motors that deliver over 600 horsepower to all four wheels. It will reach 100 km/h in less than 4.0 seconds and have over 300 miles of range or nearly 500 kilometers. Maybe a little more depending on the version.

Because yes, there will be different versions of Porsche’s electric vehicle including the Taycan, Taycan 4S and Taycan Turbo. Early Taycan pricing info puts the base model at around US $90,000 while the Taycan Turbo could cost around US $130,000.

We expect to see the production version some time in 2019, likely towards the end of the year with sales starting next year. In anticipation for a high level of demand, Porsche has already announced they were increasing the production rate of the new Taycan.
