A growing trend in the automotive industry consist of automakers offering perks and services to owners as a form of subscription service.

Rivian, a young manufacturer of electric vehicles just announced some of the details surrounding its new membership program.

This membership will give owners access to some benefits, such as off-road assistance and free charging across the automaker’s Adventure Network, a fast charging program very similar to Tesla’s.

The off-road assistance program is aimed at owners who would like to take their Rivian R1T or R1S to remote locations, but fear running out of power in the middle of nowhere.

In addition, some features will be included in the membership, like 4G LTE connectivity and additional drive modes.

Rivian decided to give a complimentary 12-month membership to every owner, but the company has not yet announced how much it would cost to keep the membership after the initial free period.

Deliveries of the first R1T pickups are expected before the end of the month, with the R1S SUV following shortly, but the automaker will have to work hard to install charging points for its members, since it promised more that 10,000 of them all around the United States and southern Canada by the end of 2023 and none are currently operating.
