The 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk will be Available Exclusively in the 4xe Version

Jeep has only just introduced the next generation of its Grand Cherokee SUV for 2022 and already the utility division is making changes to the midsize SUV lineup.

In fact, a few days ago, Jeep released details about the 2023 model year of the new model and the most impressive one concerns the Trailhawk version that will be exclusively marketed with the 4xe powertrain composed of a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine mated to a 400-volt battery pack, an electric motor, and an eight-speed automatic transmission. Total power is 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, which is more than enough for everyday use or even when road conditions get tough.

Jeep estimates that it can go up to 42 km in purely electric mode, even when the road ahead is rough. The Grand Cherokee 4xe, especially with Trailhawk gear, can therefore go a long way in the woods… and in silence!

The manufacturer has dropped the 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 and 5.7-litre HEMI V8 engines that were available for 2022, at least for the market south of the 49th parallel. The automaker’s Canadian wing confirmed the news, so the most off-road capable Grand Cherokee will be electrified from now on.

This announcement only concerns the Trailhawk model, but it confirms the company’s desire to reduce its fuel consumption. Jeep has also revealed the details of its new twin-turbocharged inline-six engine, which, for the time being at least, will be found under the hood of certain variants of the Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer tandem. Will the brand’s decision-makers dare to put an end to the reign of the aging V8 HEMI in favor of this more modern and (slightly) less fuel-hungry engine?

We’ll know the answer to that question soon enough.
