The Han EV is an SUV that has the Tesla Model 3 in its crosshairs.
It is earmarked for the European market.
It will offer impressive performance and range.
And from the looks of it, based on the few images and renderings we gathered, the BYD Han EV certainly is visually appealing. In fact, this near-luxury electric SUV seems ahead of the curve with its integrated self-learning driving assistance, over 600 km of range, innovative battery technology, and much more. On top of this, it will be priced in the €45,000 to 55,000 range. Should Tesla be worried?
As far as styling goes, the few images we have depict an attractive Ford Mustang Mach-E like 4-door Coupe-cum-SUV roofline. The cabin is clean and clear, highlighted by a giant central display – all of it seems impressively premium. Speaking of highlights, the Han has DiPilot which is an advanced intelligent driving assistance system that works with 5G technology. According to BYD, this enables the Han to be the most intelligent and interconnected driving experience to date.
Details on the EV drivetrain are even more remarkable, again, on paper. The BYD Han EV uses its own Blade Battery technology promises to be the safest of its kind having survived a nail penetration test. The following video is worth the watch. Wait for it.
This battery technology also enables the Han EV to travel up to 605 km (376 miles) on a full charge. We assume this is using WLTP criteria, but this is notable nonetheless. Its electric drivetrain is powerful enough to launch the SUV to 100 km/h in only 3.9 seconds.
Long ago, BYD had displayed vehicles at the Detroit Auto Show with plans to enter the market. At the time, the vehicles seemed far from ready however the Han EV is convincing. For the moment, it’s headed to Europe and other markets.
