The Chevrolet Silverado EV WT now with more range

  • The distance is estimated at 450 miles (724 km), up from 400 miles (644 km).

  • For now, the range is limited to the WT trim.

  • A customer version of the truck will eventually be offered.

The auto industry is getting organized in the full-size electric pickup segment. The Ford F-150 Lightning and the Rivian R1T are already on the road – especially in the U.S. in the case of the latter – while others are getting closer to launch. Let’s not forget the GMC Hummer EV, although this specific model is aimed at a slightly more upscaled clientele.

Manufacturers must also consider the professional customers, those who need their trucks for work. To this end, Chevrolet has updated the range of its Silverado EV pickup in WT version. The range, which was originally estimated at 400 miles (644 km), has now been increased to 450 miles (724 km), which is a significant increase, although this distance will melt like snow in the sun when it will be coupled to a heavy load.

“We think it’s a winning proposition […] We had already announced that the target would be 400 miles, but the team has done an outstanding job of raising that to 450 miles,” said Rory Harvey, General Motors’ new CEO for North America.

The upcoming arrival of the fleet-only WT version will be followed by a version with a reduced range of 350 miles (563 km) later this year.

At this time, this range easily surpasses the 320 miles (515 km) possible on the extended range version of the electric F-150. The Rivian R1T, on the other hand, is capable of 328 miles (528 km), which is too little for this new announcement from the bow-tie manufacturer.

Of course, we’ll have to keep an eye on Tesla, which is working on its own pickup truck, better known as the Cybertruck. The American manufacturer had already indicated that the targeted autonomy could reach 500 miles or 804 km between charges.

Chevrolet has also thought about this other clientele that has become accustomed to a full-size pickup daily. The “regular” versions of this vehicle are expected in early 2024.
