2022 Volvo V90 Cross Country B6
The Volvo V90 Cross Country had an uncertain future in Canada, but it appears it will be back for at least one more go in 2022 and it brings with it a new mild-hybrid powertrain.
The T6 engine under the hood is replaced by a B6 powertrain which features a mild hybrid system. Specifically, the 2.0-litre turbocharged AND supercharged engine (a unique powertrain exclusive to Volvo) now uses an electric supercharger which is powered by a 48-volt battery. The B6 engine was announced back 2020.
There’s also a new motor-generator which delivers an added 13 horsepower and 29 pound-feet of torque while also being capable of recycling the energy generated when slowing down. Total output for this new B6 engine (new for the V90 Cross Country anyway) is 295 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque.
According to Volvo, the new engine will offer better accelerations, but it will also be smoother. We’ll have to wait to actually drive the 2022 Volvo V90 Cross Country to find out if this is true, but the fact that it looks like we will have that chance is newsworthy alone.
The price is set at $68,295 in Canada. The V90 Cross Country will continue in the U.S. for another year while the regular V90 has been phased out.
Considered one of the most beautiful wagons ever built by many, the V90 Cross Country struggled to gain traction in North America where SUVs are the norm. Hopefully the new engine will bring the V90 Cross Country some new clients. Source: RPM (FRENCH)
