There’s been loads of talk about the new 2019 G20 generation of the BMW 3 Series. We’d say that it’s a clean split between positive and negative comments but to be fair, other than some design doubts and abolishing the manual transmission, it’s been good.
We think BMW wants to keep things on the up and up as they’ve just released details and pictures of the top spec M340i xDrive. The 8-speed Steptronic automatic transmission and xDrive AWD with rear-wheel bias are par for the course for the car, and expected.
If there was one thing to “complain” about with the last 340i (440i) was that more power would be welcome. BMW’s gone and answered the call by revamping the turbocharged 3.0-litre straight-6 engine. It is now all-aluminium, the twin-scroll turbocharger’s been overhauled and through more wizardry now produces 374-horsepower and 367 lb.-ft. of torque.
The extra power is enough to send the M340i to 100 km/h in 4.4 seconds, or half a second faster than the top-of-the-range model of the previous generation car.
As a “M” car, it also gets a slew of “M” bits including tasteful aero, a sport suspensions, brakes, sport differential, seats and more.
