Volkswagen Giving Arteon More Power, Lists 2022 Lineup Changes

  • VW making content upgrades to most of its 2022 models

  • More powerful Arteon, simplified Atlas lineup

Volkswagen has announced what it is calling the democratization of technology features across its lineup. That means the VW digital cockpit is now standard on most 2022 models, with IQ.Drive driver assistance offered on most as well. Plus the Jetta gets a mild refresh while the Arteon adds a new and much more powerful engine bringing the four-door coupe to 300 hp, with some other trim changes along the rest of the carryover model line.

The 2022 Volkswagen Arteon offers three trims, SE, SEL, and SEL Premium, all three coming standard with R-Line content this year. That includes a new 2.0L turbo-four with 300 hp and 295 lb-ft, up from 268 and 258 respectively last year. A seven-speed DSG replaces the eight-speed auto for some extra sportiness. Arteon starts from $39,995.

Atlas is down to six trims, including SE, SE Tech, SEL, and SEL versions with R-Line, R-Line Black, and Premium R-Line. SE, from $33,475, gets digital cockpit standard for the first time. The 2022 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is offered in the same six trim levels and also gets digital cockpit standard, from $32,775.

The Volkswagen Passat has SE and R-Line for 2022, plus a new Limited Edition we’ve discussed previously. Passat starts from $27,295 this year.

Lastly, while Volkswagen said that the Jetta and Jetta GLI would get a refresh for model year 2022, they aren’t ready to give us the details yet. Expect “improved styling and content” for the sedans, but just what that entails isn’t clear. These cars will join the all-new Mk 8 Golf GTI and Golf R, the all-new Taos, and the refreshed Tiguan in the 2022 Volkswagen lineup.
