More bad luck for Volkswagen and its all-new ID.3. The upcoming EV is struck by more delays and deliveries might be pushed back to spring 2021.
Last December, German Manager Magazin was reporting that Volkswagen was having massive software problems with their upcoming electric hatchback. This problem will result in over 20,000 ID.3’s being built without the full software kit.
That means engineers will need to travel to the location of the stored ID.3s to resolve the issues before each of the problematic Volkswagen’s can access the over-the-air (OTA) software update.
“Establishing a powerful new electronics and software architecture is a challenge that can lead to difficulties or delays, which we are currently addressing,” a Volkswagen spokesman said to Automotive News earlier this month. “The time plan remains in place: market launch is scheduled for summer 2020.”
The Volkswagen ID.3 production started on November 4th at the Zwickau factory. The first car off the line was a white ID.3 1ST special edition. All the ID.3s being built are stored in special parking space while waiting for the first wave of fixes to happen in spring according to Manager Magazin, with a second wave scheduled to start in mid-May.
Meanwhile, reports are saying that the Volkswagen ID.3 deliveries are delayed until August in Denmark instead of June. Furthermore, a Twitter user based in England posted a screenshot of an email he received from Volkswagen concerning its ID.3 build. According to the email, the new EV will only be available in spring 2021.
The email says: “Keep an eye out for price and specification details in early 2020. Then, in spring of next year, we will be in touch again inviting you to purchase your ID.3 within a specific window of time.”
