2021 Genesis GV80 - Genesis
The 2021 Genesis GV80 is the vehicle that will set the stage or pave the way for Hyundai’s luxury brand’s future. The $64,500 base price is for the 2.5T Select trim with standard AWD, a panoramic sunroof, 14.5-inch central touchscreen display, wireless phone charging, heated front and rear seats, and a power liftgate. This price also includes freight and preparation fees as well as other elements such as Genesis Connected Services, map updates, and more
We have to admit that we are a little shocked by the base price, and you too might be if you happen to compare the $64,500 Canadian starting price to the base $48,900 price in the US. We thought the GV80 would be priced from about $55,000 but clearly, we were off. Our GV80 is better equipped and features AWD as standard however what we thought was to be attainable luxury isn’t. We assume that the upcoming GV70 SUV will be that vehicle.
The base 2.5T Select is powered by a turbocharged 2.5-litre 4-cylinder engine that generates 300-horsepower and 311 lb.-ft. of torque. The 375-horsepower 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 is available as of the $80,000 3.5T Advanced model. As such, the V6 commands a $10,000 premium over the 2.5T Advanced, at $70,000. The top-line 3.5T Prestige is priced at $85,000.
At the GV80’s unveil in Miami earlier this year, we wondered how Genesis Canada would handle the volume generated by this new and extremely promising luxury SUV – now we know. In Canada, at least, they may not sell as many as we thought. Genesis’ overall volume may still double in the country, however.
