Volkswagen is readying a new Taos. The 2025 model of Volkswagen’s smallest crossover in the U.S. and Canada will debut tomorrow, September 12th. So here’s a teaser showing you the little crossover’s oddball LED light bar and what look like a new set of headlights.
You’ll have to wait for the full reveal, but we do know a few things about the 2025 Volkswagen Taos. To start with, don’t expect a complete redesign. Based on spy photos and other rumours, this will be more of a refresh. What’s not clear is if it will be like the recent and ultra-mild Jetta refresh or something more elaborate.
Along those lines, expect some minor changes in the cabin with new infotainment. It will also almost certainly get the ChatGPT functionality VW said recently was coming to all of its models.
We’re expecting the same 1.5L turbo-four, which makes 158 hp. It uses an eight-speed automatic in front-drive grades and an eight-speed DSG dual-clutch when equipped with 4Motion all-wheel drive.
Volkswagen might be planning a more aggressive off-road version of the Taos. We’re taking that from the teaser image, which is captioned “Life is short. Enjoy desert first.” That’s desert with one S, meaning sand. Not desert with twin letters S, as in strawberry shortcake.
Since the current Taos has almost zero desert capability beyond the pavement that gets you there, that implies VW has some plans in store. Or, it could just be a reminder that the Taos is named for a people from New Mexico. The 2025 Taos will be revealed on September 12 at 9 am Eastern.
