AJAC Announces Winners of the 2024 Canadian Car of the Year Awards

Toyota and Genesis have both made a double.

At the opening of the Canadian International Auto Show, the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC) announced the winners of the 2024 Vehicle of the Year Awards.

  • Winner in the Canadian Car of the Year category: Toyota Prius.

  • Winner in the Canadian SUV of the Year category: Toyota Grand Highlander.

  • Winner in the Canadian Electric Car of the Year category: Genesis G80 electrified.

  • Winner in the Canadian Electric SUV of the Year category: Genesis GV70 electrified.

In the Canadian Car of the Year category, AJAC awarded the prize to the Toyota Prius. This popular hybrid has been completely renewed for 2023. It features a four-wheel drive system. Its fuel consumption rating is just 4.8 L/100 km combined. It beat out the Acura Integra Type S and Honda Accord.

Ahead of the Mazda CX-90 and Genesis GV70, the Toyota Grand Highlander took first prize in AJAC’s Canadian SUV of the Year category. A new addition to the Toyota line-up, the Grand Highlander represents a larger version of the Highlander, as its name suggests. Consumers can choose between gasoline and hybrid versions.

Finally, AJAC presented the Canadian Electric SUV of the Year award to the Electrified Genesis GV70. It boasts a range of up to 380 kilometres. It edged out the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Mazda CX-90 PHEV at the finish line.
