Buying a new car has become, more than anything else, a game of patience. For many hot new models, especially if electrified, delivery delays can extend beyond a year. If you are in the market for Volkswagen’s latest ID model or a new Audi, be prepared for a long waiting period.
Over at Volkswagen, the upcoming ID.5’s launch has now been postponed by over a month to May 6th due to a lack of wiring harnesses. In effect, the German giant was unable to assemble a sufficient amount of dealer demo models. They’ve paused production until more parts arrive next week.
The situation is direr over at Audi. According to Automotive News Europe, production of the Q4 e-tron, A4/A5, A6/A7, TT, and Q7/Q8 model series will be put on ice for a number of weeks. Specifically, the TT, Q8, and Q4 e-tron models will not roll off the assembly until mid-April. And even then, the output will be limited. Other models like the A1, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7, Q2 e-tron, Q5, and A8 will resume production in the next week.
Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has negatively impacted auto production for most makes including the VAG, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Nissan, and others.
