General Motors‘ latest address to its shareholders showcases how serious the American automaker is about going green. The release outlines a number of achievements, ongoing projects, as well as what the future will look like.
A number of points brought up highlight GM’s progress as they update existing plants to build future EVs. Next month, they will celebrate the grand opening of Factory ZERO in Detroit-Hamtramck where the GMC HUMMER EV, the Cruise Origin, and the Chevrolet Silverado EV will be assembled. This plant, along with Orion Assembly, CAMI in Ontario, and Spring Hill Assembly in Tennessee are the first assembly plants that are being converted for EV production.
Next year and into 2023, new battery plants will open in Lordstown, Ohio, and Spring Hill will also go online. These plants will serve to “feed” GM’s forecasted 20% EV production by 2025, a number expected to climb to 50% by 2030.
While they are scheduling battery replacements for the Bolt EV and EUV battery replacements, GM’s Chevrolet brand is preparing an electric crossover that will be priced around $30,000. This is the EV that will prove to be a game-changer for all.
