General Motors has announced that the Edition 1 version of the GMC Sierra Denali EV sold out less than 24 hours after having been unveiled.
The electric pickup is the GMC version of the Chevrolet Silverado EV, which was unveiled a few months ago already.
As with many new vehicles, the first units to be sold are part of a special edition that is fully loaded and features a distinctive exterior appearance.
This is why the Sierra Denali EV Edition 1 only comes as a fully equipped version powered by the most powerful battery and motors, which deliver 754 horsepower.
This should allow it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph (96 km/h) in only 4.5 seconds, and it makes it capable of pulling up to 9,500 pounds. GMC says the range of the Edition 1 model should be close to 400 miles (644 kilometres).
In addition, the Sierra Denali EV will feature a 350 kW fast charging capacity that will make it able to add 100 miles of range in 10 minutes.
The automaker hasn’t said how many trucks will be part of the special edition, but it confirmed its sticker price, at $108,695 in the United States.
While GMC says the truck is sold out, the order books have not been officially opened yet, which means that only pre-orders have been taken, each with a refundable $100 deposit.
More affordable versions of the electric truck are planned, starting at around $50,000 in the US. These models should be introduced closer to the first deliveries, in 2024.
