BMW has announced that the more powerful version of the XM plug-in hybrid crossover, the Label Red, will be launched in the fall of 2023.
This model will feature a more powerful version of the PHEV drivetrain found in other versions of the XM and a number of red accents on the outside.
The BMW XM is the first standalone M model since the M1 sports car, sold between 1978 and 1981, so the automaker had to give it an impressive level of performance in order to match the public’s expectations.
This is why the standard model delivers 644 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque from a twin-turbocharged V8 engine and a hybrid powertrain.
The Label Red will use the same mechanical elements, but it will bump the output up to 738 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque.
In addition to boosting power, the plug-in hybrid elements of the XM’s powertrain will also make it more efficient since BMW claims the Label Red model will be capable of 82 to 88 kilometres of fully electric driving, according to the WLTP testing cycle.
The Label Red model is also likely to receive changes to the suspension and braking systems that will make it able to handle the increase in power over the standard XM.
From the outside, the XM Label Red will be easily recognized due to the large red grille surrounds and the red line that circles the side windows.
BMW has yet to show a picture of the inside of the Label Red model, but it is likely that the red accents will be found there as well.
More details will be known over the next 12 months, ahead of the launch of this version of the XM.
