Ford F-150 Lightning Revealed During Biden Speech at Ford Plant

  • A day early, Lightning strikes behind President Biden

  • Full reveal of first all-EV F-150 tomorrow night

A day before the rest of us get to see the Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup, President Joe Biden was at the automaker’s Rouge Plant in Dearborn to check out the vehicle and talk about his plan to help electrify America.

The new Lightning, which Ford has kept extremely well under wraps, was just sitting there casually in the background like we weren’t supposed to notice. It gives us a look at the truck, at least, even without specs. In a world of outrageous electric pickup concepts, this one, which will likely be the first to actually see mass production, looks an awful lot like the gas-powered Ford F-150 but with a closed in grille and more LED accent lighting. Apart from the nose, the rest of the cab appears identical. Which would seem to go along with Ford’s plans since all of the camouflaged prototypes we’ve seen have looked like standard Ford pickups.

As the first one able to give hands-on opinions about the electric truck, Biden said that “you’re going to like it.” He joked about “losing” the Secret Service to go for a drive in the truck, then took one for a drive around the Ford facilities large empty parking lot following his speech. While he looked impressed, the President didn’t make any driving noises or gestures while sitting in the stationary truck.

Biden also announced new EV investments including tax credits for clean vehicle manufacturing and battery production in the US as well as retooling funds for EV manufacturing, all as part of his new multi-trillion-dollar infrastructure plan. He also talked about new consumer and business incentives to purchase clean vehicles as well as adding EVs to government fleets.
