The Toyota Corolla Cross Will Come To North America

  • It will between the C-HR and the RAV4.

  • The exact timeline isn’t clear, but it’s expected for the 2022 model year.

  • It will be assembled in a new joint-venture factory with Mazda.

Not that the market’s got countless SUVs to select from, OEMs are looking to diversify with new small crossovers. The Toyota Corolla Cross was introduced last summer in Asia and now it looks like it will officially come to Canada and the US.

The small CUV segment isn’t new but in the last few years, it has grown to include the likes of the Hyundai Kona and Venue, Kia Niro and Seltos, Mazda CX-3 and CX-30, Honda HR-V, Nissan Kicks, Chevrolet Trailblazer, Buick Encore GX, Volkswagen Taos, and a few others. Notably absent from this list is Toyota but not because it doesn’t offer its own small CUV. The C-HR was among the first entries however it never garnered much favour from consumers.

That will likely change when the 2022 Corolla Cross arrives. Automotive News (subscription required) states that production of the new CUV will begin this year at a new joint-venture plant with Mazda in Alabama. Our version of the Corolla Cross is expected to differ from the one that debuted in Thailand last summer.

More details will surely follow before long.
