If you’re a fan of The Barn Find Hunter, you’ll probably recognize this Ford Country Squire as belonging to Tom Cotter from the series. In the episode that was first published on March 1st, 2017, Tom took his superb Ford Woody to a storage facility outside Detroit, Michigan where he introduced his viewers to this car, the manual Country Squire that would become his own. Now, three years later, it’s being auctioned on Bring a Trailer.
The story goes that this very 1967 Ford Country Squire station wagon was a special order by a man in Ohio. He wanted to buy a car for his wife and kids, but he didn’t want just a big ‘ol boring wagon. This man also wanted a car that was fun to drive, a hot rod. Said gentleman had to write Ford’s top management, Ford executive Lee Iacocca, in order to get the go-ahead for a wagon with bucket seats, a center console and the 4-manual transmission to go with the 428ci V8.
Tom Cotter used the Country Squire in many subsequent episodes of Hagerty’s popular Barn Find Hunter series and now the car is up for sale on Bring a Trailer. Recently, a 1978 Ford LTD Country Squire sold on BaT for just shy of $50,000 at $45,000. While this car only had 5,000 miles on the clock, it isn’t a special as this unique piece of automotive history. As well, the 1967 Country Squire has desirable patina, has received a number of subtle upgrades, and now has some providence.
We think this car may fetch well north of $50,000. There’s newfound madness surrounding cars like these and with just over five days left to the auction, we’re thinking it may even reach the six-figure mark for the simple reason that there are no other cars like it. What do you guys think?
