The EQS 580 4Matic will start at $144,200 in Canada
Only the AWD variant will be sold in Canada, the US will get a cheaper RWD option
The EQS 580 4Matic will be $1,300 more expensive than the gasoline powered S 580 4Matic
Mercedes-Benz has just announced the Canadian pricing for its new EQS electric flagship sedan.
Only the EQS 580 4Matic will enter Canadian dealerships since the company decided against selling the cheaper and RWD only EQS 500 that will be sold alongside it in the United States.
This decision means that the strategy to increase sales of the new electric car employed in Europe and the US which consists of pricing it lower than the S Class will not be used in Canada.
Indeed, the EQS will start at $144,200, which makes it almost $21,000 more expensive than the cheapest S Class.
On the other hand, it is better equipped than the S 500, which makes it compete better with the S 580 that is priced a lot closer, only about $1,300 less than the EQS.
The EQS 580 will feature the new MBUX Hyperscreen composed of three screens, one in front of the driver, one in front of the passenger and a bigger one in the middle, all set behind a 56-inch-wide plate of glass that spans the entire width of the dashboard.
Four option packages will be offered in the EQS 580, the first one is the Premium package that includes head-up display, massaging seats, ventilated front seats and rear axle steering, among others, for a total of $7,000.
Next is the Sport package, offered at $4,500 which includes AMG-line exterior styling, 21 inch AMG wheels and star panel.
A night package adds black cladding to the Sport package equipped vehicles, for an extra $500.
Finally, the Executive Rear Seating Package gives rear seat passengers access to electrically adjusted ventilated seats equipped with “luxury headrests”, entertainment screens, side airbags and a neck warmer, in addition to a few other niceties, for $7,000.
The EQS 580 should reach Mercedes-Benz showrooms around Canada by the end of the year.
