For now, we don’t know the nature of these future GR products.
Akio Toyoda could participate in the development.
A GR bZ4X could be in the works.
The future of the Toyota brand is bound to be electric, but what about the Gazoo Racing division? The GR emblem currently found on the GR Supra and GR 86 coupes, as well as on the newly added GR Corolla, was founded by Akio Toyoda for a reason.
At least that’s what Toyota’s new boss Koji Sato says, suggesting that the GR sports wing’s high-performance cars will move forward, even suggesting in passing that the development momentum may even accelerate.
Indeed, in an interview with the British website Autocar, Mr. Sato even noted that his predecessor, Mr. Akio Toyoda, had been a strong supporter of the GR brand, even competing in motorsports while he was the company’s top man. And since he was now the president of Toyota, maybe he would help the wizards of the sports division to develop new products.
So, we can believe that the dream of launching sports cars is well and truly present inside the Japanese giant.
Unfortunately, the nature of future sports car projects is unknown, although it is already admitted that the automaker is considering adding a more dynamic variant of the bZ4X electric crossover. It’s also possible that hydrogen will be part of the brand’s strategy to power its future sports cars. Who knows?
Let’s remember that the electric sports car segment is currently and slowly coming together. Porsche is already working on its 718 range, while elsewhere in the world, the British brand MG already has its Cyberster. And that’s just the beginning, because other players will join the race, including Toyota.
Still, this is good news for sports car enthusiasts, and based on the quality of the models being developed by the GR division, performance enthusiasts can expect more exciting cars to drive in the future.
