New 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB : Same Size As GLA But Can Seat 7

The new compact 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB is a boxier, more truck-like compact SUV that will seat up to 7 passengers and do very well for Benz.

Revealed yesterday evening, the new 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB hits the sweet-spot size and capability-wise. While most people rarely make use of the 3^rd row in their 3-row SUV, they usually purchase them for the enormous trunk when said seat is stowed. The new Mercedes-Benz GLB will seat 7 when needed, deliver 560-litres of storage, or give you extra boot space, up to 1,755 litres, without the typical huge footprint of a 3-row SUV. We believe this is known as right-sized.

From a styling perspective, the new GLB is far boxier, with an off-road character,  than the high-heeled-cars that are the GLA and GLC. There’s a correlation between the GLB and range-topping GLS which will certainly not hurt the compact SUV. In fact, we’re quite convinced that its size and looks will strain GLA and GLC sales.

The 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB’s wheelbase is of 111.4 inches, which is 5.1 inches longer than the GLA and 1.7 inches shorter than the GLC SUV. Powering the GLB 250 will be Benz’s well-known 221 horsepower turbocharged 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine and an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. In Canada, Mercedes-Benz’s 4MATIC AWD system will be standard and will be influenced in torque split via the DYNAMIC SELECT drive modes.

Overall, the new 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLB borrows heavily from the new Mercedes A-Class and CLA. This applies not only to powertrain but to interior features. The GLB will inherit the brand’s amazing MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) infotainment system which starts off with twin 7-inch screens and optionally graduates to twin 10.25-inch screens.

The new GLB is manufactured at the Aguascalientes (Mexico) plant. It will be available in Canada at the end of the year. Pricing will be announced closer to launch time.
