Kia has a new SUV in the works set to launch later this year. Smaller than the Sportage, the Tusker will take on entry-level urbain utility vehicles like the Nissan Kicks.
The all-new Kia Tusker was spied for the first time testing recently. We didn’t publish the pictures here because honestly you can’t see anything that gives an idea of what the upcoming Tusker will look like.
We don’t know too much about Kia’s latest SUV except that it will compete with the recent Nissan Kicks and other small urban SUVs like the Chevrolet Trax in terms of both pricing and dimensions. Like the Kicks, the Kia Tusker is expected to be front-wheel drive only.
The idea is to ensure the Tusker doesn’t come into competition with the Hyundai Kona. You can expect a sub-20k starting price.
No word yet on what engines will power the new Kia Tusker, but if Kia stays true to its roots it will offer two powertrains in its new entry-level SUV. We’re sure Kia will want to maintain a certain gap between the Tusker’s power output and the 181-horsepower Kia Sportage.
It wouldn’t be surprising to see Kia’s 2,0-liter, 147-horsepower engine in the new Tusker, but all of that will have to be confirmed later. It wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect to see the Kia Tusker at the New York Auto Show in April.
