The 2024 Nissan Kicks represents the seventh model year of the first-generation model that launched for 2018 in North America. In our region, it’s the brand’s smallest and most affordable crossover.
The Kicks received a facelift and other enhancements for the 2020 model year, and has changed little since then. Although an all-new and bigger generation of the Kicks is arriving for 2025, moving it up into the subcompact utility vehicle segment, the first-gen model will continue to be sold in Canada as the Kicks Play in order to remain a player in the urban crossover category.
2024 Nissan Kicks Changes and Updates
In the U.S. market, the Kicks SV and SR trim levels receive NissanConnect Services as standard, with a three-year trial. The feature allows owners to remotely start the vehicle, lock and unlock the doors and check vehicle status from a mobile app.
There are no significant changes for the 2024 Kicks in the Canadian market.

What the 2024 Nissan Kicks Does Well
- It’s the most fuel-efficient model in the urban crossover segment. Granted, the differences are marginal, but every drop of fuel saved counts in our books (or pocketbooks).
- The Kicks’ cargo area is among the most spacious behind the rear seatbacks. It’s barely beaten out by the Chevy Trax. That’s impressive for such a small vehicle.
- A decent amount of features is included as standard in the Kicks, such as a six-speaker audio system, a seven-inch infotainment system touchscreen, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto integration, a height-adjustable driver’s seat, 60/40 split-folding rear seatbacks, cruise control, an intelligent key, auto high beams, emergency braking with pedestrian detection, blind spot monitoring, rear park sonar and more. LED headlights, leatherette upholstery, heated front seats and steering wheel, an eight-inch touchscreen, a Bose eight-speaker stereo, a 360-degree camera system, adaptive cruise control, climate control and NissanConnect services are also available.
- As is the case with many Nissan products, the Kicks’ climate and audio controls are easy to use while driving. The wheel-mounted controls are also well laid out and the button shapes make them very quickly decipherable with our fingers.
What the 2024 Nissan Kicks Doesn’t Do Well
- The Kicks isn’t all that engaging to drive. Power is sufficient for urban commutes and highway stints, but with a full load of passengers aboard the vehicle, we’d like more engine torque.
- Fit and finish aren’t all that impressive. Some materials feel low-rent, and on our last Kicks test vehicle, the hood wasn’t perfectly lined up with the front fenders, and in the cargo area, there was some yellow seat foam sticking out from a seam in the rear seatback. Cost savings are to be expected in a vehicle of this price, but it’s a lot less obvious in the Kicks’ rivals.
- The Kicks’ cargo area is spacious with the rear seatbacks up, but folding them down doesn’t increase volume all that much. Maximum cargo space is among the worst in its category, and the load floor isn’t flat.
- Road and suspension noise can be heard inside the Kicks. Again, it’s not a big deal given its price point, but the competition does a better job as insulating the cabins of their urban crossovers.
2024 Nissan Kicks Competition
