After the A 35 was unveiled yesterday, we now can turn our attention to the top-of-the-line Mercedes-AMG A 45.
The big news right now is the new Mercedes-AMG A35 which was unveiled last night. As impressive as the A 35 is, the 2020 Mercedes-AMG A 45 shown here driving on nice is even more drool-worthy.
Filmed having a blast and getting sideways on ice in Sweden, the Mercedes-AMG A 45 will be the grand daddy of the A-Class family.
More powerful than the already potent, 302-horsepower Mercedes-AMG A 35, the A 45 will likely come with a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder making 387 horsepower in the base model. A new Mercedes-AMG A 45 S with 421 horsepower is also planned. Both will have 4Matic, but it’s considerably more drifty in the A 45. More on that in a second.
Given that the A 35 gets to 100 km/h in about 4.7 seconds, we can expect the A 45 to do it in 4.0 seconds and the A45 S to get there in 3.7 seconds. Those are just guesses, granted.
The differentiation between the A 35 and A 45 is noticeable even here and despite the A 45’s heavy camouflage. We notice four exhaust tips as opposed to two in the A 35, and a larger rear wing.
The Mercedes-AMG A45 May Get A Drift Mode
We mentioned the drift mode earlier and we talked about it back in January when the first reports of the upcoming A 45 started trickling in.
The new A 45 will apparently get a drift mode much like the Mercedes-AMG E 63. The idea here is to facilitate getting sideways in a car that’s already prone to show you its rear at the slightest nudge of the throttle.
We can’t wait. Granted, we don’t know if the Mercedes-AMG A 45 is coming to North America yet. We will likely see the production version at the upcoming Frankfurt Auto Show next fall.
