A load of new Volvo EVs are coming, says a new report. Dealers for the brand from around the Americas gathered at a conference where executives are said to have laid out plans for seven new and redesigned electrified models to include five EVs and two plug-in hybrids.
Automotive News reported the new vehicles, citing “people who attended the meeting who asked not to be identified.” According to the report, dealers were told that the new vehicles should start to arrive as early as next year and could double their store sales to around 800 vehicles per year by 2025.
The five new battery-electric models include a large crossover and a small crossover as well as a sedan. Also joining the list are two sporty wagons that the report called “activity vehicles.” For these, think Volvo’s Cross Country lifted and body-cladded wagons.
Volvo’s plug-in hybrid models shown to dealers were redesigned versions of the S90 sedan and XC90 crossover.
“Volvo is one of the most exciting manufacturers,” said a dealer. It is “nailing” the product mix with a focus on crossovers, electrification and technology, the source said.
AN had a description of the vehicles as well, including a “modern interpretation of Volvo’s signature Thor’s Hammer lighting design.” A battery pack in the floor will allow the long-wheelbase common to EVs, and a lower hood and roof to enhance aerodynamics.
First to arrive will be a 3-row full-size crossover, expected to sell 20,000 units next year. Another new model is expected in 2025, fitting between the XC60 and XC90. An all-electric XC60 is expected, as well as a new model below the XC40.
