A decade ago, the Countryman made its debut on our roads, and today it unveils its 3rd generation for the year 2025. The all-new MINI Countryman has stretched without losing an ounce of its distinct charm, with six centimetres more height and thirteen centimetres more length. However, one question remains: is the name “MINI” still the best label for this electric model?

More imposing

Measuring 4,433 mm long, 1,843 mm wide and 1,656 mm high, the MINI Countryman oscillates between versatile elegance and everyday practicality. The extended wheelbase of 2,692 mm promises superior comfort. A sleek design, squarer lines, a slightly curved roof, and LED headlights front and rear underline the modernity. Large wheels, up to 20 inches, add a touch of robustness, while the body color dominates the aesthetics.

More space

The abundance of exterior volume is reflected inside. The modular rear row, with individually adjustable seats and a generous trunk capacity of 460 to 1,450 liters, creates an oasis of convenience. The optional panoramic roof illuminates the interior, while recycled materials underline the commitment to sustainability. An additional compartment in the floor offers practical space for charging accessories. The cup holders are enlarged, and the console includes a new storage space below the HVAC panel. The former allows phones to be stored in an easy-to-find place and wirelessly recharged at the same time.

The dashboard centralizes all functions in a 9.4-inch OLED display. The MINI 9 operating system enables touch or voice control, while semi-automated driving and remote parking add a futuristic touch to safety. The minimalist graphic style focuses on the essentials, with an optional head-up display. In the lower section of the OLED display, Navigation, Media, Phone and Climate menu items can be selected directly at any time. All other functions can be accessed via the menu in the same way as on a smartphone. It all takes a bit of practice, but you’ll get the hang of it after a few hours.

313 horsepower in the form of electrons

With a combined output of 313 hp, the electric motors of the MINI Countryman SE ALL4 deliver impressive acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. The 66.45 kWh battery provides a range of 440 km according to the WLTP cycle, or between 340 and 350 km at home. A rapid DC charge in 30 minutes for 80% of the battery promises enhanced efficiency. Adaptive driving and multiple modes add a touch of personalization to the driving experience.

Behind the wheel

Weighing in at 2,000 kg, the electric Countryman offers a powerful ride, although the weight is palpable. The steering, though lacking in precision, offers a tight turning radius. The 313 horsepower and varied driving modes ensure a personalized experience. Semi-automated driving up to 60 km/h adds a dose of modernity.

For a sportier feel, there’s the optional adaptive suspension with 15 mm reduction and frequency-selective dampers. You also have a choice of sportier tires and different rims to add grip to the experience. For the ultimate economical experience, there’s the Green mode, which optimizes driving efficiency. For the first time, the MINI Countryman also offers semi-automated driving on motorway-like roads at speeds of up to 60 km/h. Up to this speed, drivers can take their hands off the wheel if they continue to follow traffic closely.

Conclusion

In Canada, the Countryman SE starts at $59,990, becoming eligible for a number of government subsidies. After taxes and miscellaneous charges, the final price before options is $60,125. With its competitive range, unique styling and attractive post-subsidy price, the electric Countryman is an intriguing choice for modern families. It remains to be seen whether a more affordable E version will expand the range of options.
