Chrysler gains new design options after years using older vehicle platforms.
Stellantis expects STLA One to become a key global architecture by 2030.
Chrysler’s design team is preparing for a new phase of vehicle development as Stellantis readies the rollout of its STLA One architecture, a platform expected to underpin future products across multiple regions.
The first North American vehicle scheduled to use STLA One will be the Chrysler Airflow, a midsize crossover that has yet to receive a confirmed launch date. When it arrives, the vehicle will represent Chrysler’s first all-new product since the Pacifica entered the market in 2016.

For Chrysler designers, the new architecture is a departure from recent years spent working with legacy vehicle foundations. The brand’s lineup has relied heavily on platforms associated with its minivan programs and the discontinued Chrysler 300 sedan, limiting opportunities for design experimentation.
Irina Zavatski, Chrysler vice-president of design, said the new platform provides significantly greater freedom in vehicle development. Speaking to reporters at a media event at Stellantis’ North American headquarters in Auburn Hills, Michigan, Zavatski said the architecture offers flexibility that can support new design proportions and future styling directions.

The platform’s global scope is also expected to create opportunities for collaboration across Stellantis’ international design organizations. According to Zavatski, teams from different regions will be able to adapt the architecture to suit their market requirements while maintaining common engineering foundations.
STLA One is expected to become a central component of Stellantis’ long-term product strategy. The automaker has stated that three vehicle platforms will account for roughly half of its global production volume by 2030, with STLA One among the key architectures supporting that objective.

Stellantis design chief Ralph Gilles described STLA One as a major future platform within the company’s portfolio. As the automaker transitions away from its STLA Small and STLA Medium architectures, the new foundation is expected to assume a larger role across multiple vehicle programs.
For Chrysler, the platform’s arrival is the first bright light of hope towards a product line expansion in over a decade, new vehicle introduction.
