Nissan adds new cross-platform charge app
Will start shipping NACS adapters this year
Nissan is working on making charging easier for its EV owners. The automaker is launching a new app that will let drivers of its Ariya and future EVs find and pay for charging through a single app across multiple networks.
The MyNissan app will consolidate public charging into just that one app. Nissan’s compatible network, which it calls the Nissan Energy Charge Network, already includes ChargeHub, Shell Recharge, and the Tesla charge networks. The automaker plans to add more in the future, expanding beyond the 20,000 stations currently available.
For now, access to the Tesla Supercharger network may be the most important part of the change. That company’s network is the largest in North America, so being able to find a station, see availability, and pay through the app is a big plus.
Leaf owners are out of luck, though they can find charge stations through the old NissanConnect app.
Nissan is also planning to start shipping North American Charging Standard adapters to Ariya owners by the end of the year. They’ll need that adapter to charge at Tesla’s Supercharger stations. Sometime next year, Nissan will start offering its EVs in North America with that plug built-in.
