Some might think it’s risky to fully electrify one of Porsche’s most popular models without an internal combustion engine option, but Volkswagen Auto Group’s sports car brand is fully committed to the electric car.
In fact, the decision to make the next generation Porsche Macan 100% electric was taken as early as last summer. The growing interest and enthusiasm for the Porsche Taycan certainly must have influenced the Supervisory Board of Porsche AG into finalizing this pronouncement.
For Porsche, electromobility and the brand’s inherent character go hand in hand. Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Board of Management of Porsche AG, states that: “Electromobility and Porsche go together perfectly; not just because they share a high-efficiency approach, but especially because of their sporty character.”
The next Macan will be built upon the Porsche PPE architecture (Premium Platform Electric), jointly developed with Audi, and feature 800-volt technology. Like the Taycan and Taycan Cross Turismo, it will be assembled at the Leipzig plant in Stuttgart.
We have no reason to disagree with this next step in Porsche’s plan that involves up to 50% of all new vehicles sporting an electric drive system by 2025.
