Tesla Sets October 1 Reveal for Long-Delayed Next-Generation Roadster

  • Tesla will reveal its next-generation Roadster on October 1 after years of changing timelines.

  • The second-generation Roadster was first announced nearly nine years ago.

  • Pricing, production timing and availability of the proposed SpaceX thruster package remain unconfirmed.

Tesla has finally (tentatively?) set a firm date for its next major update to the long-delayed Roadster, with an October 1st, 2026, reveal now promoted through the automaker’s official channels.

The company posted a brief “Go for launch” message on X accompanied by a teaser carrying the date “10.01.” Tesla’s Roadster webpage also points to October 1, giving the upcoming event more weight than previous executive comments about the car’s arrival.

The announcement does not establish anything else, such as when customer production or deliveries will begin. Tesla first presented the second-generation Roadster way back in November 2017. Since then., the program has accumulated numerous delays and revised timelines.

Tesla’s Canadian Roadster page once advertised preliminary specs including 0-100 km/h acceleration in 2.1 seconds, a maximum speed exceeding 400 km/h and approximately 1,000 km of range. The company also describes the vehicle as a four-seat electric supercar with a removable glass roof.

One unanswered question concerns the involvement of SpaceX. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has mentioned an optional package using cold-gas thrusters, technology intended to push the Roadster’s performance beyond that of a conventional battery-electric sports car. This however remains to be seen.

Musk has also claimed the eventual Roadster could accelerate from 0-60 mph in less than one second and has suggested the vehicle could briefly leave the ground. Those statements have not yet translated into confirmed production specifications. The October event should clarify how much of the proposed SpaceX technology will reach customers.

The latest teaser appears designed around the aerospace connection, although Tesla has not formally confirmed what the visible elements in the image represent. What look to be roof-mounted lights had us first thinking about an off-road Roadster but this seems almost less likely than a thruster-equipped EV – we are talking about Musk.

Barring other obstacles, the October 1 event should mark a new milestone rather than confirm that deliveries are imminent. After almost nine years since the second-generation prototype appeared, Tesla will hopefully take the opportunity to establish the Roadster’s final design, specifications and path toward production.
